As former Senior Consultant to Phillips Asia and former Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Derek brings a unique perspective to collecting and managing art investments for institutions and private collectors. He works seamlessly at the intersection of art and cultural strategy.

A graduate of Harvard University, Professor Derek Burton Collins’ academic path has taken him from classical studies to cultural strategy, from lecture halls to leadership roles. In 2024, owing to his extensive world travels, he was honored to be appointed the Founding Director of the Wong How Man Centre for Exploration at HKU.

Derek Collins joins a select group of senior leaders and executives at the University of Hong Kong’s Institute of China Business for a private, invitation-only workshop exploring the future of leadership in a globally interconnected landscape. Bringing together perspectives from government, industry, and academia, the programme examines key themes shaping tomorrow’s organisations, from cross-cultural management to emerging technologies and global systems.

As part of the workshop, Derek presents “The Curator-Leader: Managing Cultural Heritage and Corporate Longevity,” offering a perspective on how cultural stewardship and legacy thinking can inform modern leadership. His contribution reflects an ongoing commitment to shaping high-level dialogue at the intersection of culture, strategy, and long-term value creation.
